Local expert Sam Armstrong will share restaurant news and reviews, info about culinary events, product suggestions and great recipe ideas.

Sam Armstrong is an Austin writer, designer and event planner that actually hails from Austin. Well, okay, Williamson County. At the ripe old age of four, he moved from Mansfield, Texas, to Round Rock, where he was introduced to the wonders of Frito Pie, the public library and avoiding the dangers of growing up gay in WilCo by posing as the Round Rock High School homecoming king and student body president. (Whew! That was close!)

After jettisoning his red-county shackles, he accidentally spent a year in College Station, then ended up spending his days at Central market, typing up recipes and soaking up food knowledge. He has managed the marketing efforts at the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts – Austin, served on the advisory board of the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas, helped build culinary corporate identities for some of Austin’s favorite food-related ventures and opened Central Market stores around Texas. He is a fanboy for upscale cocktails, innovative dishes and provocative product packaging, but he has never turned his back on his Frito Pie origins.
