Festival: Fun Fun Fun Fest [UPDATED]

Austin City Limits has come and gone and now here comes its spunky “little brother” festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest. Now in its ninth year, with a venturesome spin on mainstream Austin festivals, the annual genre-based fest hopes for a victorious weekend with three days and “Nites” of music, comedy, food, and action sports.

Fun Fun Fun Fest caters to hip-hop, electronica, indie rock, punk, and comedy acts and is known for its adventurous lineups year after year. This year’s edition features hip-hop artist Nas, celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut album Illmatic, heavy metal band Judas Priest, with lead Rob Halford, who publicly came out in the late 90s, indie rock band alt-J, experimental, multi-genre producer Flying Lotus, and 100+ more. Festivalgoers can also catch comedy and performance acts on the Yellow Stage such as John Waters, the Baltimore director known for his transgressive cult films. Also hitting the Yellow Stage will be Greetings, From Queer Mountain, a monthly LGBT storytelling showcase from Cheer Up Charlies hosted by Michael Foulk and Ralph Hardesty. At night, the music continues with FFF Nites at venues around downtown Austin including Cheer Up Charlies and Empire Control Room, where openly gay rapper Lief takes the stage.
