Art: Flannel & Glitter Art Exhibit

1841

Here’s a cultural way to kick Pride Week into gear: come out to celebrate LGBT art and creativity at this year’s Flannel & Glitter Art Exhibit. Back for a second installment, the exhibit features gay-themed artwork, photography, and other pieces from 50 LGBT artists, allies, and icons – including self-portraits from Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestants and original pieces from celebrity stand-up comedian, Phyllis Diller. If the exhibit’s fun and eccentric title “Flannel & Glitter,” hasn’t grabbed your attention, special guests A Sideways Grimace along with a Hedwig tribute band are among many of the expressive and exciting talents that’ll be performing. Other artists exhibiting work include Lydia Lunch, Bruce LaBruce, JD Samson, Peaches Christ, and many more.

Flannel & Glitter sets Pride week into motion with its opening reception Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 20 at The Romani Gallery. A portion of artwork sales will go to the Austin Gay & Lesbian Pride Foundation.
