Calling all swing dancers! Put on your dancing shoes and vintage wear and get ready for a weekend of swingin’ at the 2014 Austin Lindy Exchange. For 14 years, Austin Swing Syndicate has hosted the annual dance weekend dedicated to celebrating 15 years of swing dancing in Austin.
The mission is to dance until exhaustion settles in, which isn’t too hard with non-stop dancing, themed evenings, and 10 live bands to keep couples moving. Prepare to time travel through all eras of swing: Dancers step back into the roaring 20s this Friday for Prohibition Night at the historic Fed, headquarters of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, with performances from Thriftset Orchestra, Hot Club of Austin, and the Swingsters. Saturday brings double the fun with the Western Swing on 6th at Old School Bar & Grill during the day, featuring the Hot Texas Swing Band, and later that evening, the 1940s Vintage Dance with performances by Jonathan Doyle Swingtet, Chico Chico, and Albanie & Her Fellas. The three-day event closes with a trip back to the 50s for American Bandstand Revisited featuring performers Alice Spencer & Her Princes of Jump and the Peacemakers. This year’s event also includes food, a costume contest, a vintage-themed photobooth, and more. Tickets are available for pre-sale as well as at the door.
