As much as we’d like to fight the thought, some of us just can’t help but to think about the upcoming Christmas season. For some, that season has already arrived–ask the Hallmark channel that started airing Christmas movies on November 1. So, for those who are already mapping out their Black Friday plans, here’s a stop to include that’ll ease you right into the holiday spirit: the Blue Genie Art Bazaar.
Going on its 14th year, the annual holiday fair features thousands of handmade art work ranging from jewelry, sculptures, paintings and photography to clothing, ceramics, glassworks and more, just in time for the gift-giving time of year. With over 130 Austin area artists contributing, including jeweler Lisa Crowder, glassworks artist Morgan Bogart, art and animation artist Sam Hurt and many more, all selected through a jury process, the BGAB runs from Black Friday until Christmas Eve. The art bazaar also showcases special events over nearly four weeks, including movie screenings from the Austin Film Society, Artists Socials every Tuesday night where costumers can meet artists and discuss their works, and live acoustic performances on Wednesday nights. BGAB supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas, with a percentage of profits going to the foundation on Make-A-Wish Monday.
