The Waller Creek Conservancy is proud to announce the third annual Waller Creek Pop-Up Picnic at Palm Park (711 East 3rd Street) on Saturday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. Families from all over Austin are invited to come spread their blankets, sit with their neighbors, listen to music, and enjoy a wonderful night on the banks of Waller Creek.
Chefs from some of Austin’s most beloved restaurants will be preparing picnic basket dinners-for-two, ranging in price from $30 to $150, which are on sale now at WallerCreekPicnic.org. Among the options are special offerings from Austin eateries including Sway, La Condesa, Home Slice Pizza, Lucy’s Fried Chicken, and St. Philip. Unique drink pairings will be included in baskets from Jeffrey’s, Justine’s Brasserie, Elizabeth Street Café, La V, Uchi/Uchiko, and Weather Up. Texas barbecue baskets will be available from Franklin BBQ and The Salt Lick. Gardner and Lenoir will provide vegetarian picnic basket options, and a children’s picnic basket will be available from Patricia’s Table. There will also be a limited number of baskets from Easy Tiger available for walk-ups. Picnickers are also welcome to bring their own spread from home. All of the baskets serve 2 people and will be available for pick-up between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on April 18.
Like last year, the picnic is expected to sell out, so baskets should be ordered soon. Lord Highpockets and Tim Murphy, who spin exclusively 7-inch vinyl records, will provide music for the Pop-Up Picnic. Beer will be available for purchase on-site.
The community-wide event will raise funds and awareness for the Waller Creek Conservancy, a local nonprofit dedicated to the preservation, redevelopment, and maintenance of the city’s own Waller Creek.
“The Waller Creek Pop-Up Picnic is a preview experience of what a transformed Waller Creek will become—a place, welcome to all, where Austin’s neighbors come together to engage and enjoy its parks and natural resources,” said Waller Creek CEO Peter Mullan. “I want to thank all our generous sponsors and most of all our dedicated volunteers, for making this event possible.”
