The Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is an annual bike ride that raises funds to make sure everyone in Central Texas can get the care and support they need to face breast cancer. It’s pure fun on a bike with support that’ll make you smile every mile, great people, and awesome food. It’s a ride, not a race and with distances from 10 miles on up to 100, we’ve got something for everyone.  Join us on Saturday, September 27th, ride your bike, have a blast, help beat breast cancer!

Each year too many people in our community are diagnosed with breast cancer and there just isn’t enough help. Mamma Jamma founder, Jan Hill, is a cancer survivor.  She tried lots of different support groups but never really found one that helped her until she met the folks from Team Survivor.  Now Team Survivor isn’t technically a support group… they offer free exercise classes to female cancer survivors…but they sure do know how to make the people in those classes feel supported. Jan joined the team and began the arduous process of taking back her body from cancer.  She found other people who shared her experience, a wealth of new friends, and an incredible network of people who understood.  What she didn’t find was a lot of money to help support Team Survivor.

A majority of Team Survivors clients are breast cancer survivors.  So Jan, her friend Nan McCraven and other community leaders started looking at the services available to those affected by breast cancer in our community.  They found some really wonderful programs, nutrition classes, patient navigation, treatment for those without the means to pay, volunteer families to help with non-medical tasks and so much more.  They also found that all of the organizations providing the help needed more money. So they set out to create an event that would help grow the pie of available funds for everyone.

Look Out Breast Cancer, Here We Come!

After participating in the successful Hill Country Ride for AIDS for many years, Jan knew that they had a successful model for raising funds and awareness for lots of organizations.  So they approached David Smith, the Hill Country Ride’s longtime director about doing a similar event for breast cancer.

He agreed to help and in 2009, brought together ten breast cancer service organizations to create this annual cycling event to help all of them raise more and do more for Central Texans affected by breast cancer. The first Texas Mamma Jamma Ride was a huge success, not only for the money it raised but also for the community spirit that quickly became an integral part of the Ride.

Thanks to enthusiastic and dedicated supporters, the Ride has over 2 million dollars since its inception in 2009 and helped thousands of Central Texans affected by breast cancer get the care and support they need.
