On Sunday, September 28, friends of Austin’s Springdale Farm will come together to host a sip and stroll fundraiser featuring delectable bites from Austin’s top chefs, a silent auction, farm games and much more. Dubbed “Springdale Farm Aid”, the bighearted benefit will take place from 1-5 PM on the grounds of the East Austin urban farm. Proceeds will assist the farm by helping to ease its ongoing financial burden as it navigates city processes to become compliant with current codes in an effort to continue operating as a twice-weekly farm stand and community hub hosting non-profit events, fundraisers and other special events.
The afternoon’s festivities would not be possible without the generous contributions from many of Austin’s celebrated chefs, who support the beloved farm and can also be seen regularly shopping for fresh produce and eggs on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the farm stand. Today, Springdale Farm Aid announces the addition of local restaurants Lenoir and Wink to the event’s stellar lineup. Local cidery Austin Eastciders and local-centric shop Coterie Market are now also set to appear.
The $50 all-inclusive ticket to Springdale Farm Aid will include a fun-filled Sunday afternoon on the celebrated farm complete with carefully crafted food and drink, farm games, live music, a silent auction and a photo booth. Confirmed chefs, restaurants and artisans include: Bryce Gilmore (Odd Duck / Barley Swine), David Bull (Congress Austin / Second Bar + Kitchen), Shawn Cirkiel (parkside / Olive & June), Sonya Coté (Eden East / Hillside Farmacy), Michael Fojtasek and Grae Nonas (Olamaie), Andrew Curren (24 Diner / Easy Tiger / Arro), Sarah McIntosh (épicerie), Mat Clouser and Zach Northcutt (Swift’s Attic), Stephanie McClenny (Confituras), Brandon Fuller (Cafe Josie), Ben Runkle and Josh Jones (Salt & Time), Rob Snow (Greenhouse Craft Food / The Scarlet Rabbit), Skyler Golden and Troy Knapp (The Driskill Grill), Brandy Gibbs (Fine Home Dining), Chad Dolezal (The Hightower) and Kristine Kittrell (Mulberry / Weather Up) and Eastside Pies in addition to libations provided by Tipsy Texan, Real Ale and Austin Wine Merchant. Springdale Farm Aid is sponsored by the Austin Food & Wine Alliance, Slow Food Austin and Smilebooth.
“Who knew when we started farming that it would become so complicated and political,” comments Springdale Farm’s Paula Foore. “These days, we spend a good majority of our time and resources going to city meetings and filling out city applications for permitting, code compliance and farm ordinances while we try and keep our focus on being the community hub that we’ve always set out to be. This November will have been a year since the Urban Farm Ordinance passed and we’re still working on, what was supposed to be, simple compliance issues. I know we are not the only farmers that are caught in the crosshairs of navigating policies here in the country’s 11th largest city but with the upcoming city elections, we’re concerned about the future of our farm.”

About Springdale Farm:
Owned and farmed by Glenn and Paula Foore, Springdale Farm sits on 4.83 acres just 3 miles east from the State Capitol in Austin, Texas. Located at 755 Springdale Road in East Austin, the family operated Urban Farm grows over 75 seasonal vegetable varieties and operates a popular public farm stand every Wednesday and Saturday from 9AM-1PM. The Foores purchased the property in 1992 through the City of Austin’s Economic Re-Development Program, that enticed small businesses to come to east Austin to hire employees from the east side community based on the Neighborhood Commercial Management Program and their Job Creation and Retention goals. The property served as home to the family’s landscaping and lawn maintenance company — Texas Trees and Landscapes — until January of 2009, when Springdale Farm was formed. Seven long time employees, including three employed for more than a decade, work tirelessly in the day to day endeavors of farming. Springdale Farm is committed to growing produce for anyone in the area interested in eating fresh, local food and works daily to create a sustainable future “for ourselves and our community.” The award-winning farm, who regularly teams up with local organizations to host educational food, music and arts events, has thrice been named Edible Communities Local Hero in the Farm / Farmer category.
