    Featuring:

    INTERIOR.LEATHER.BAR. (USA, 2013, 60min, BluRay)
Co-directed with actor JAMES FRANCO, this SUNDANCE premiere begins as a re-imagining of the lost 40 minutes of William Friedkin’s controversial 1980 thriller CRUISING before expanding into wider issues of creative freedom via sexually candid “behind the scenes” sequences with cast and crew.

I WANT YOUR LOVE (USA, 2010, 14min, BluRay)
Jesse and Brenden playfully negotiate their way toward having sex together, for the first time, on Jesse’s last night in San Francisco, in this short incarnation of Mathews’ first feature, which was, controversially, refused exemption to screen at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival by the Australian Classification Board.

**Followed by a Q&A and CONVERSATION between TRAVIS MATHEWS and scholar Laura Gutierrez. Hosted by local filmmaker PJ RAVAL!**

    Participant Biographies
    ————————–————————–————————–
TRAVIS MATHEWS: One of the most provocative figures in the new wave of independent cinema, Travis Mathews has been celebrated for his daring authorial vision, influenced by his documentary background and the classics of the art-house underground, as well as for his frank depictions of gay male intimacy, which manage to push the proverbial envelope, while also providing a generative inroad for the cinephiles and the curious of all proclivities.

PJ RAVAL: Based in Austin, TX, Raval is an award-winning cinematographer (TROUBLE THE WATER, 2009 Oscar Nominee) and director (BEFORE YOU KNOW, SXSW 2013; TRINIDAD, Winner Best Documentary Cleveland International Film Festival 2009). Named one of FILMMAKER’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in 2006, and featured in the “Out 100” in 2010, Raval is also the current Vice President of OUTsider and a member of the AFS Filmmaker Advisory Committee.

LAURA GUTIERREZ: Gutiérrez (PhD University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a performance and visual culture studies scholar. Her primary research and teaching areas of interest are Latin American, Mexican and Latina/o embodied practices, gender and sexuality, and questions of nation, modernity and the transnational. She holds affiliate appointments in the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at UT Austin. Gutiérrez is the author of Performing Mexicanidad: Vendidas y Cabareteras on the Transnational Stage (U Texas P, 2010), which won The Ninth Annual MLA Prize in United States Latina and Latino and Chicana and Chicano Literary and Cultural Studies.
