Heather Pesanti, Saturday, Nov 15th, 2pm – 6pm
Heather Pesanti is Senior Curator at The Contemporary Austin, overseeing curatorial programming and exhibitions for the museum. To date, she has organized exhibitions on the work of Marianne Vitale, Liam Gillick, Charles Long, and Do Ho Suh. Pesanti is currently planning Strange Pilgrims, a large-scale thematic exhibition opening September 2015 on experiential art that will engage the museum’s two sites, the Jones Center and Laguna Gloria, as well as a third venue, the Visual Arts Center (VAC) at the University of Texas, and will be accompanied by the organization’s first substantial catalogue. Pesanti relocated from Buffalo, New York, where she was Curator at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery for nearly five years. During her tenure, she organized the historic exhibition Wish You Were Here: The Buffalo Avant-garde in the 1970s, a large-scale survey of Buffalo’s dynamic arts scene in the 1970s. Additional projects included the survey Robert Therrien (2013), a group exhibition Surveyor (2011), and several collection-based and co-curated exhibitions. Pesanti holds master’s degrees in Cultural Anthropology from The University of Oxford, England, and in Contemporary Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
Heather Pesanti will lead a studio tour of five east-side Austin art spaces. At each stop, Heather will introduce the group to the audience and lead an informal conversation with the artist and the group.
