One-Day Workshop for Gay Men: “Sex is Dirty, Right?” Presented by Darren McCall, Licensed Professional Counselor
My mission is to contribute to the health of the Austin community. Fifteen years of working with gay men as a sexual health counselor have resulted in a lasting passion for helping in this way. Sexual health can be defined as a state of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and social well-being related to one’s sexuality and sexual activities. Sexually healthy individuals integrate sexuality into their lives, while avoiding and reducing harmful consequences for themselves and the community. Sexual health includes mutual pleasure, honesty, and shared sexual values, or agreeing on the expectations of the relationship.
This six-hour workshop (one hour of sharing a light breakfast, five hours of content with regular breaks and snacks) will focus on ways to integrate sexuality into your own life to increase your satisfaction. This will be a safe space to talk openly and have fun, rewarding conversations with other gay men. We will start by learning a basic practice of mindfulness that will set the tone of gentle, compassionate curiosity for the day. From this point of view, we will discuss the various parts of our personalities that show up in relation to sex, the origins of the attitudes and beliefs we were taught to hold, and the attitudes and beliefs we really hold or desire to hold. We will conclude the day by each participant identifying one workable goal that will be a step toward sex as part of an empowered, vital life. Registration is $150, and space is limited to 10 participants. For more information, call (512) 789-6754 or visit http://eightfoldcounseling.com.
