Austin Babtist Women Celebrate 28 Years with Tamborine-Shakin’ Anniversary Show
The all-male, all-volunteer comedy fundraising troupe, the Austin Babtist Women, will celebrate their 28th annual Anniversary Show on Sunday, September 21st. Benefiting the charities of the Texas Gay Rodeo Association, the free show takes the stage at Bout Time II, located at 6607 North IH-35 Frontage Road in Austin, beginning at 7 pm.
This year’s Anniversary Show features special guest entertainers including Dallas-based international cabaret star Victoria Weston, Austin musical theatre (Les Miserables, Gospel at Colonus) and opera virtuoso Chaz Nailor, and infamous drag performers Pannica Tack and Althea Trix.
Created in 1986, the Austin Babtist Women have become an incredibly-respected charitable force, performing throughout the nation to raise money for HIV/AIDS, breast cancer and other charitable causes. The troupe of five male actors take-on the personas of little old church ladies and stage elaborately choreographed, side-splitting routines – raising more than $8 million dollars along the way for charity.
The Austin Babtist Women were originally created as a one-time charity performance for the Texas Gay Rodeo (TGRA), but demand for their shows has led to an almost-three-decade run of fundraising. The TGRA is a non-profit organization dedicated to elevating the image of women and men in the field of rodeo while simultaneously engaging in charitable activities. During their 31-year history of gay rodeos, the TGRA has donated more than $2.75 million to Texas charities.
Admission to the Austin Babtist Women’s 28th Annual Anniversary Show is a $5 suggested donation at the door. Bout Time II is located at 6607 North IH-35 Frontage Road in Austin. For more information, visit www.BabtistWomen.com.
